▸배경 이야기
1912년 타고르가 직접 영역한 《기탄잘리》 35번. 두려움 없고 앎이 자유로운 곳을 하나씩 열거하며, 그 자유의 하늘로 조국이 깨어나기를 기원한다.
그대의 기쁨이 내 안에서 이토록 가득한 까닭은, 그대가 내게로 내려왔기 때문입니다. 그대의 사랑은 그대를 사랑하는 이의 사랑 속에서 자신을 잃고, 바로 그 둘이 온전히 하나 되는 자리에서 그대가 보입니다.

▸배경 이야기
1913년 타고르가 손수 영어로 옮겨 펴낸 《기탄잘리》의 한 편. 시인은 사랑을 한쪽이 다른 쪽을 가지는 일이 아니라, 둘이 서로에게 스며 자신을 잃는 자리에서 비로소 완성되는 것으로 노래했다.
Thou hast made me endless, such is thy pleasure. This frail vessel thou emptiest again and again, and fillest it ever with fresh life.
This little flute of a reed thou hast carried over hills and dales, and hast breathed through it melodies eternally new.
▸배경 이야기
1910년 벵골어 시집 《기탄잘리》의 첫 시. 1913년 타고르 자신의 영역본으로 노벨문학상을 안겼다. 타고르는 신을 향한 헌사를 빌려, 자기를 비우는 사람만이 거듭 채워진다는 결을 가만히 짚었다.
